2025, looking to the future

 



    As we roll into 2025, the world of tabletop gaming continues to grow and evolve at an astonishing rate. It’s an exciting time for board game enthusiasts as new mechanics, fresh designs, and innovative gameplay ideas are making their way to the market. With a slate of exciting titles that have been teased for release this year, I wanted to take a look at some of the games I'm eagerly anticipating and the plans I have for this blog as we move forward into a new year of gaming.

Upcoming Games in 2025 That Have Me Excited

First off, let's talk about some of the upcoming board games that have been teased for release this year. As always, I'm particularly drawn to unique concepts and the potential for innovative experiences at the gaming table.

1. Unscrewed

Unscrewed is one of the games I’m most excited about in 2025. "Due to dwindling ratings, the Blammo! network can only afford to keep one of their notorious Saturday morning cartoons on the air, but they cant decide which!

you control the misfit characters from these cartoons in a televised fight to the death, concocting schemes and watching them go hilariously wrong. You'll try to out scheme each other using game changing quirks, flavorful gimmicks and an arsenal of cartoon weaponry to attack each other and survive a map that shrinks every round - all to keep your show from being canceled." - Description from the publisher

Unscrewed looks to offer a hilarious battle royale style board game that I think will get lots of table time for me in 2025. With its unique cast of characters and endless amounts of wacky weapons and abilities this game looks to be a lot of fun with loads of replayability.

2. Apothebakery

In a land filled with perilous dungeons and treacherous monsters, take on the legacy of an Apothebaker — an ancient lineage of culinary alchemist healers. Sought after far and wide by adventurers in desperate need of salvation.

With the help from your trusted Forries, collect ingredients and valuable resources from the wilderness. Brew elixirs and bake cakes of salvation to heal and rejuvenate adventurers on the brink of doom.

Over the course of 6 rounds, players compete for the most reputation by strategically achieving objectives, healing adventurers and casting powerful spells. There are 3 phases per round; Foraging, Alchemy and Healing.

Embrace the role of an Apothebaker, accumulating reputation for each adventurer you heal and every bake you undertake. The player who gains the highest reputation by day’s end will claim victory!

My partner is particularly excited about Apothebakery. its got adorable art and a cute theme, but the game play and resource management makes it look like it will be in-depth enough to keep people invested from start to finish.

3. Apex Legends: The Board Game

I’ve been a fan of the Apex Legends video game for years, and now that it's being adapted into a tabletop version, I can’t wait to dive in. This game promises to bring the high-octane action and character-driven gameplay of the video game into a tactical, turn-based experience. Apex Legends: The Board Game has the potential to create a new wave of excitement in the tabletop gaming world.

I was given a chance to play test an early version of this game at the UKGE in 2023, I had my doubts before that but after playing a game I immediately pre-ordered my copy. It is probably my most anticipated game of 2025, the combat mechanic uses cards instead of dice which is a refreshing take on miniature skirmish games, and the flow and feel captured the energy of the video game perfectly. I cant wait to get this to my table.

In addition to my usual blog posts, I’ll also be focusing on creating detailed reviews of both new and classic board games, highlighting the mechanics, theme, and overall experience. My goal is to make these reviews as helpful as possible for fellow gamers, whether you're looking for recommendations for your next game night or just want to know more about the latest hits in the industry.
